We can count on Eric Braeden for a number of things. We know that anytime he’s on The Young and the Restless, he’s going to deliver a riveting performance. We know that his social media will always be interesting. And we know that if he has a strong feeling about something, he will hold nothing back.

Such was the case when one of his followers on X recently shared a 2012 scene in which Nikki caught her estranged husband on a date with his frequent daughter-in-law, Sharon. Pulling no punches, the Emmy called it “one of the most badly executed storylines ever!

“The storyline actually pissed me off!!” he continued. Given that Victor had always viewed sons Nick and Adam’s former wife as a daughter, “I had envisioned an entirely different scenario! One in which he never married Sharon! It was ridiculous!”

So the trouble came in not the idea but the execution? “It was simply written as it was never conceived of! I had suggested a far more interesting storyline!” Braeden revealed. “And I have never again suggested a damn thing!! Not my job, anyway!”

You might think that if the MVP didn’t like the way a plot was being twisted, he could put the kibosh on it. But it ain’t necessarily so. “Once something is in the script, it’s too late to undo!” explained the actor, who has played Victor since 1980. (And we have this familiar face to thank for him accepting the role in the first place.)

Thankfully, the Victor/Sharon pairing has long since faded into rearview. As Braeden put it, “that’s all past!! Onward and upward!”
