Young and Restless Preview: Claire’s Entire Future Rests In [Spoiler]’s Hands

Happily ensconced in her new life as a Newman, it would appear that Claire’s prospects are wide-open and the sky’s the limit. Why then do we think her entire future hinges on the outcome of an upcoming encounter on Young & Restless? Keep reading and we’ll tell ya’.

It was like a dream come true for Claire when Kyle finally decided to offer her the job of being nanny to the adorable Harrison. They could spend hours together every day baking cookies, playing soccer, and reliving the nightmare of being abducted by “the witch” — a perfect fit!

But what is a celebratory parade on a soap opera without rain? In this case, Summer rain.

That’s right, Summer proved to be a spoiler when Claire discovered that she hadn’t given her blessing to the arrangement. In fact, as Victoria’s daughter discovered when she probed her cousin, Summer still didn’t want Claire around Harrison at all. Why? She can’t shake the feeling that it wouldn’t be good for her son. What she didn’t say, is that she’s unconviced that Claire is truly safe in light of the atrocities she committed against Sum’s family.

Fair enough. Claire told Summer she respected her position and would not take the job as a nanny to Harrison without her blessing. That brings us to our preview, which involves a whole new encounter between the two.

Presumably, Claire feels that giving Summer a few days to mull things over might have changed her tune, as she goes to her asking, once again, for a second chance… and we can’t help but sense that the outcome of their conversation is key to Claire’s very future.

Why? If Summer decides to forgive Claire and accept her as Summer’s nanny, then her cousin’s dream of “working with children” will come true. If Kyle’s ex once again nixes the idea of embracing Claire as either a family member or nanny to Harrison, the rejection could have an undesirable effect on Claire’s recovery… and even send her back into psychosis.

Perhaps, Summer will refuse to give the go-ahead and Claire, fed up, will decide to accept Kyle’s job offer anyway, which would set them up for an ongoing rivalry.

Even if Summer gives Claire the thumbs-up to nanny Harrison, we’ll be watching on tenterhooks as the writing is on the wall in big, red warning letters — Summer is bound to become jealous of Claire’s growing bond with not only her son, but her ex-husband.
