Once Jack gets into Nikki’s suite, he takes her vodka and pressures her to go to a meeting. She refuses and says she gives up. Jack turns on the lights and she slurs at him to turn them down. He rants that her room is a mess. Nikki knows what she looks like and what it all looks like — it’s a bender. Jack calls down for water and coffee. She hopes that’s for him. Jack mutters about sobering her up. He complains about her ignoring everyone’s calls. How could she end up there like this. She slurs, “I am me.” Jack tells her Cole and Victoria found Claire and she’s OK. Nikki unearths a flask and wants to toast Claire. Jack takes it away. He wonders if she’s celebrating. “Is that what this is?” Nikki tells him, “Don’t you get it? I’m a lost cause.”

Jack argues she’s not a lost cause. He takes off his jacket and tidies as he suggests she go splash water on her face. Nikki thinks he wants her to take a good look at herself, but it’s too late. Jack fumes that she’s a strong woman who has been tortured for months. She always comes out stronger and better. Nikki says, “Not this time.” Jack wants to call her family, but she launches herself at his phone, “Don’t you do that!” She’s seen the future and her family is sick of her and her crap choices. “I ruined everything, so the least I can do is let them move on without me.” Jack lectures that it was just a vodka-soaked nightmare. Nikki goes for a bottle of vodka — it can’t break her heart. Jack stops her, arguing it will break her heart every time. She’s the rock of her family. He wonders what Katherine and Neil would say if they were there. They’re not, but he is. Nikki slurs that anyone who counts on her is an idiot.

Jack won’t let her give up. Nikki smirks, “What are you going to do to stop me?” Jack thinks she needs rehab. Nikki argues it won’t work. She’s tried everything. Jack says relapse is part of recovery. Nikki insists it wont’ work. She can put on an act. She shoves him and says, “You have to want to get sober, but I don’t.” Jack implores, “You can do this!” He knows it’s scary but it can turn around. Nikki throws an empty vodka bottle in disgust and tells him to stop with his damn positivity. She’s trying to figure out how to get him out of there. Jack won’t go until she agrees to go to a meeting. Nikki calls him smug. “You really think you can fix me?” She finds another bottle and opens it. “Come to mama.” It’s empty too. Jack knows she wants to drown herself, but it’s the booze telling her she isn’t strong enough. Nikki can’t fight this anymore. She smashes the bottle on the floor and hides in the bathroom.

Later, Nikki emerges and Jack says room service came and he cleaned up a little bit. Nikki doesn’t want to eat, it smells nauseating. He says that will go away after a few bites. She snarks, “Are you a doctor now or do you just play one on TV?” Jack urges, “Just a few forkfuls.” He pours coffee and hands it to her. Nikki asks him to get her a cold towel, but Jack says it’s not happening; she’ll just take another slug. Nikki sips the coffee and says she doesn’t have the strength to fight this anymore. Jack reminds her Jordan is gone. Nikki says the damage is done. How many years will Harrison have nightmares? Who knows what Jordan did to Claire?

Jack repeats that she’s not to blame. Nikki slurs, “I shoulda let her die when I had the chance.” Jack urges her to pull herself together and help her family. Nikki scoffs at his suggestions. Jack thinks it will help to be there for others. Nikki says she’s let the real her out and it’s a damn relief. Jack argues she’s changed people’s lives for the better. Why not do the same thing for her great-grandson and Claire? Nikki squints, “You’re right. I should help them. They deserve it. They deserve all of me.” She picks up a bottle. “They deserve for me to pour this down the sink and call rehab.” She then slurs, “Nice try, Jack.” Jack hollers that she can beat this. She says, “That Nikki is gone. You’re going to have to rip this out of my hand to stop me.” She opens it and drinks.

Jack tells her he won’t wrestle her for the bottle. He wants to take her to a meeting. Trying a different tactic, he suggests they talk about happy memories and family. Nikki tells him to stop it; he’s making things worse. Jack tries to get the vodka, but she won’t give it up. “I’m sorry I picked you as my sponsor.” She needles that he failed. He couldn’t help her and now Victor can say, “I told you so.” Nikki drinks again and sighs, “That feels good.” She tells Jack to join the party or get out. Jack stews and then says, “Fine. I will.” He grabs another bottle and pours a drink. “Wow, that’s smooth. I see you sprung for the triple-distilled.” Nikki sneers, “Do you really think you can get me to stop by drinking half of my supply?” Jack suggests they order some vermouth. “Let’s see if Ol’ Smilin’ Jack can have fun again.” He dials his phone and asks someone named Kieran to make a delivery to the suite. “Yeah, same stuff. Thanks, buddy.” He tells Nikki she’s right. “I’ve been wound too tight for too long. It’s time to get loose!” Nikki stares at him with her jaw on the floor.

Nikki asks, “Who did you call?” She tries to wrest the vodka bottle out of his grip, but he won’t let her. He pours another drink and says he’s been a failure as her sponsor so to hell with it. She sneers, “Don’t you try your reverse psychology on me!”

Jack says he’s doing her a favor by making sure she doesn’t overdo it and land in the hospital. “Let’s do a toast!” He suggests they start by toasting to Jordan, or her 40th anniversary, or their marriage. Finally, he says they should toast to their enduring friendship. Nikki wants him to leave so she can drink in peace. “You’re mocking me.” Jack tells her to stop feeling sorry for herself — it’s not all about her. He’s experienced hell these past weeks too! Harrison went missing, Diane and Kyle are fighting, Ashley’s a mess and won’t get help, “And then there’s you!” He wants some relief! Nikki reminds him alcohol was never his problem. Jack says he needs something stronger. Just then, a knock comes at the door. Nikki blocks the door, but he pulls her out of the way. Jack takes a bag from someone unseen, closes the door, and reveals a baggie of pills. “Now, this is what hits the spot.” Nikki gawps.

Nikki says, “Stop this, Jack. What you’re doing is very dangerous.” Jack says he has to remember what it feels like. When he holds the pills in his hand, that gives him comfort. She says they do harm as well. Jack is grateful for their bond. “I would do anything for you.” Nikki replies, “Not like this. You can’t ruin your life to help me.” Jack will follow her to rock bottom so they can climb out together. Nikki wonders if he would really do something so stupid. She asks why he still has his dealer’s number. Jack says it’s one of the little tests they give themselves. Nikki thinks he has too much to lose. Jack recalls that Diane was worries that helping Nikki might tempt him back to the pills. He told her there was no chance. But the stress built and built. For the first time he felt one pill would help him ease the tension. It would help everyone else if they didn’t have to deal with Mr. Uptight.

Nikki wants him out of there. Jack wants what she has! He wants to just drink and wash it all away. “For one night!” Nikki slurs, “That’s crap. That’s the disease talking.” His family needs him. “You’re the glue that holds them together,” she slurs. She doesn’t want company. Jack tells her, “Too bad, you’re stuck with me.” He pours another drink and takes a pill out of the baggie. Nikki tells him to get the hell out of there. He’s trying to make her feel more worried about him. Nikki opens the door and orders him out or she’ll scream. Jack puts the pill in his mouth and she shouts, “No!” Jack wonders how it feels to know you’re unable to help someone you care about. With that, he takes a drink.

Nikki says, “You didn’t really take that pill. It was all an act.” Jack washes down another pill. “There’s something liberating about just giving up.” He says he let her down… as a friend, as a sponsor. He blames himself for her slip. As he lifts another pill to his lips, Nikki vows she’ll get sober and will have something to eat. “Come join me.” Jack says this feels too good. He takes another pill. Nikki tells him to give her the pills. He can’t take them with alcohol! Jack chuckles. Nikki’s phone makes a sound so Jack investigates. He says it’s Victor and answers. “Hello, Mr. Mustache, it’s me Mr. Uptight. You would not believe where I am, you should come join us.” Nikki, realizing he didn’t really answer the phone, says, “That is not funny.” Jack mocks how Victor raises his eyebrow. He suggests they stay there in their own paradise. Nikki says she’s wrong, she does need a meeting. Jack pulls her close, “Dance with me.” Nikki doesn’t want to dance. Suddenly, Jack passes out on the sofa. Nikki screams, “Oh my God, Jack! Wake up! Wake up, please!”
