With a history of mental illness, it wasn’t a huge surprise that Ashley would struggle with the traumatic and abrupt end of her second marriage to Tucker McCall, but we were stunned to learn that her psychotic break had actually left her with a developing case of D.I.D. or Dissociative Identity Disorder!

After (supposedly) seeing an old friend who is a psychiatrist before returning home from Paris, Ashley was in a fender bender that caused her to flash back to losing her baby in a car wreck, which left her so traumatized she wound up in an alternate reality where the baby had been born, she’d named it Robert, and she carried it around in a blue blanket.

It was directly after this flash of memory that Ashley’s first alter emerged to “take control” of the situation with Tucker, and became bent on destroying him and his company.

we like to call her, is ruthless, blunt, and domineering, but it wasn’t long before she was challenged by a much younger and more innocent alter, who loves a cherry in her ginger ale, and who was equally determined to put an end to Smashley’s dangerous plot.

Somewhere in there, Ashley was struggling to be heard, but so far, she’s taken a back seat to her alternate personalities and their agendas.

Most recently, Tucker reunited with Audra and kicked Ashley unceremoniously out of his suite, which, if the preview is to be believed, really threw Smashley for a loop. We can assume she once again lost control as the battle inside Ashley waged, as a disheveled and disoriented version of the Abbott shows up back at home with no idea where she’s been!

So, what’s the new twist? In a recent TV Guide interview, it came to light that a new alter will soon be revealed.

Of course, Eileen Davidson, who played five different characters at one time on Days of Our Lives, is more than up to the task, but this is gonna be wild!

Expect it all to eventually come to a chaotic and “high decibel” head when the Ashley’s family stages an “intense” intervention “to try to get to the root of her issues”.

Will the Abbotts be able to help their loved one, or is Tucker McCall the only one who will be able to put all the pieces back together for Ash? Stay tuned!
