Young & Restless has me saying the same thing on repeat week after week: too boring, too much talk, too much telling and not enough showing. It’s a snooze, with the only promise of drama coming from the Houdini-like Aunt Jordan. Let us take a minute to be thankful for her latest escape. Here’s what’s happened and what’s coming up…

Audra’s Shocking Move

Audra’s shocking move wasn’t all that shocking… but that’s no real surprise given the state of the writing. So, she dumped Tucker and walked away from his company, Glissade. Something tells me she’ll find a way to undermine Glissade as her next move. I only wish I cared. At this point, an Audra and Nate hook-up seems imminent, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see her get sucked back in by McCall either. Be sure to share your thoughts on this situation in the comments.

Terminated

While it was satisfying to watch Lily get her own back by firing Heather and Daniel, there’s no drama in it being that easy. Daniel and Heather are contrite and there is no conflict contract-wise because Chancellor-Winters owns Daniel’s platform. The taking of sides was “meh” with Devon waffling and he and Abby coming across as very reasonable hypocrites. Too bad Chance didn’t overhear Devon and Abby’s conversation and get fired up about it. This situation should be causing blow-ups all over the company, but other than Lily having her moment, it’s been a drag. I guess we’ll be back to Billy and Devon bickering. Sigh.

Connor Conundrum

Listen, I love the show bringing awareness to OCD, and I love what the actors are doing with the material, but it’s all talk. This might have been totally different if Connor had been living in Genoa City, we had a younger set, and we’d watched his issues begin to arise in situations with his friends and family. The highlight of the storyline for me this week was the brotherly moment between Nick and Adam, which gave me the feels.

False Alarm

I’ve always loved how Phyllis stirs the pot and brings the drama, but the writing for her has been dreadful for quite a while now. Did I get a giggle out of her pulling the fire alarm? Yes. But get her out of this retro love triangle fluff and into a meaty storyline please.

Ashley’s Alters

There’s a war being waged in Ashley’s mind among her alters, and things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better. As you may have noticed in the preview, things will not be going well for them next week. When Tucker approached Jack with his concerns he was shot down, but I’m guessing he made an impression on Ash’s big bro, and that we’re going to be looking at the situation spinning out of control before the unthinkable happens. Watch for details in a story next week.

Someone New or Someone Used?

I don’t know what happened to the teaser about Claire catching the eye of someone new. Unless I missed something (entirely possible) it seemed like the only interaction she had was with Kyle, who was someone she’d already met before. It seems predictable that Kyle and Claire will grow closer, causing tension with Summer, initially because she’ll oppose the idea of Claire being around Harrison (who has been recast, btw, look here) and later out of jealousy as Claire and Kyle (“Kaire”, “Clyle”?) start spending time together and acting like a little family with the boy. As I warned before, Chance will get his heart stomped on… and Claire may too. Will it bring out her dark side? Claire’s insta-rehabilitation happened too fast, and the family’s acceptance of her was too easy. No drama, no complexities! We need to have something happen that tempts her back to her old ways and casts doubt on whether she’s actually reformed.

Jordan’s Last Stand?

I was downright gleeful when Nikki discovered that Jordan had escaped from the hospital. Given that the other storylines are totally devoid of drama, our only hope was to keep Crazy Aunt Jordan on the rampage. That said, her reign of terror has to come to an end at some point and where better to have her last stand than at Victor and Nikki’s extravagant anniversary bash?! “Niktor” wed for the first time on April 13, 1984, so mark your calendars!
