And just like that, Chanel and Johnny’s journey to parenthood on Days of Our Lives has come to a crushing end. Just as they were about to leave town — and after being assured their baby was fine — Chanel started feeling cramps which turned out to be a miscarriage. Their reaction was crushing and, we have a sinking feeling, just getting started.

Making it even worse is the fact that Chanel already blames her mother. We had a feeling that something would happen, putting a stop to her and Johnny leaving town, but we did not expect them to lose the baby.

As much as we were hoping against hope that this wouldn’t happen, though, one thing we do know after watching the earliest moments of the miscarriage is that Raven Bowens and Carson Boatman are about to give us some unforgettably powerful performances.

Boatman, though, has an even more personal connection to the story, and it’s one that made filming it a bit more difficult than other material he’s done.

“My wife was pregnant during the entire storyline,” he shared with Soap Opera Digest, “so I was expecting my first child while we were doing it. Honestly, it personally kind of scared me a little. It was like, ‘Oh man. There’s so much that can go wrong.’ And here I was speaking these words out loud about it as Johnny, knowing that I had a pregnant wife at home.”

Fortunately, Boatman and wife Julana Dizon’s baby girl was born into the world healthy and happy back in December.

“I really try and separate my personal life from my work,” he told SOD. “I feel like letting either one impact the other can be unhealthy. As far as acting goes, when you’re in a scene, you just believe that it’s real in the moment and then you’re done. That’s how I operate.”
