When looking back throughout the years, many of us have a summer job or two that we’ll never forgot and in the case of Days of Our Lives’ Carson Boatman (Johnny), well he has one that’s pretty unforgettable. When asked by Soap Opera Digest, “What was your favorite summer job,” the actor replied, “Pollinating corn.”

Yep, you read that right, “pollinating corn.”

Boatman was in his junior year of high school when he worked for Pioneer, a company that produces, markets and sells hybrid seed corn in over 70 countries. “They’d bus us out to these corn fields at about [6 am] in the morning,” he shared. “We’d walk the rows from about 6 am to 6 pm and help them do what’s called pollinating corn.”

And you’ll never believe the lengths the workers went to do so… “We would take paper bags, put them on top of one strand of corn, let it sit and let the pollen collect in the bags,” Boatman explained. Then after a week, they would head back to the same field, remove all of the paper bags, head out to a new field and start the process again. “It would cross pollinate and make hybrid corn,” he added. “It wasn’t fun at the time, but I look back at it fondly.”

What were some of your favorite summer jobs? We’d love to hear about them so feel free to share them with us in the comment section.
