If there’s one thing we can be certain of, it’s that everything heats up in the summer — and that includes our favorite soaps like General Hospital! Baby drama, young love and a test of loyalties are just a few things we can look forward to in the coming months. Because when the cast and executive producer Frank Valentini spoke with ABC 7 News at last Friday’s Daytime Emmy Award, they dropped more than a few tantalizing teases about the coming summer — including one potentially major surprise!
Baby Mine
First off, the one thing we all saw coming. Because for everyone who’s seen the very clear writing on the wall about how Kristina’s surrogacy is going to end up badly for all involved, congrats, you’re very much right!
“It’s not gonna be that I give birth and it’s a happily ever after,” warned Kate Mansi. “What they have crafted is very special. I’m really excited for the fallout of it and what… she gains in herself internally as a result, how she grows from that.”
In other words, TJ was probably right from the start that Kristina shouldn’t have been the surrogate! But will something happen to the baby or will Kristina just decide she wants to keep it?
Poolside Romance?
Right now, Gio’s the hot new young person in town, and he’s already making a splash (literally, what with that pool business) with Josslyn and Trina. Eden McCoy hedged her bets when it came with where this is going, but as she told ABC 7, “they bring someone and it’s like (a) trial-and-error run with every single person in the age group to try and figure out who’s gonna be with who.”
And Tabyana Ali agreed that while nothing’s set just yet, “I know that the buzz is that it’s good stuff coming.”
Law & Order
Expect the FBI saga to wrap up over the summer — which is all good for Steve Burton who wants Jason and Sonny to get back together. “I want to go back to work for him,” he shared in character, adding that he’s tired of the coffee business. But will Sonny be that eager to have him back?
Maybe, once everything comes to light and he’s back on his meds. There are a lot of people who aren’t worthy of his trust, but in the end, Jason isn’t one of them. If Sonny’s thinking clearly again, he could see that for himself once again, and bring the two friends back together. But Sonny isn’t the only one deeply affected by Pikeman’s machinations.
There’s also Anna. When all this wraps up, whose side will she fall on? Pikeman’s definitely the enemy and she now knows Valentin has tried to take out Sonny and Jason — but maybe we can’t just ignore her feelings for her ex..
Because as Hughes told ABC 7, “Anna doesn’t walk a straight line. She’s very law-abiding, you know, but she’s very willing to bend the rules if it suits her.” The question is, which rules will she bend and for whom? Will she protect Valentin in the end? With the way the show’s been pushing him down a darker path, we’ve been certain his time in Port Charles is limited.
But that doesn’t necessarily hold true if he’s got the police commissioner in his corner, keeping him from the worst consequences. And if he’s remorseful enough, he could still stick around indefinitely — though he may want to watch his back for Sonny!
The Big Return
“A former cast member is coming back,” Valentini teased. “And I think that the audience will go crazy for HIM.”
Well, that’s certainly got our attention. An actor who’s not just returning but who the fans will love? We’ve thought for some time now that it could be likely Jonathan Jackson is bringing Lucky. Right now, Laura’s got no family left besides her grandchildren, and she’s been talking about him a lot.
But what if the return is even more unexpected… but no less a fan fave?
Our bets? Bryan Craig is bringing Morgan back. Who better to pull Sonny back from the brink than the son he thought dead and who also suffered from bipolar disorder? Since leaving General Hospital, Craig’s been busy, first with Grand Hotel, then Freeform’s Good Trouble. But the latter just wrapped up its five year run in March and Craig is free once again.
Learning that Morgan survived the car bombing would upend just about everything — especially with Ava, the woman who switched out his meds that caused the manic episode that put him in Julian’s booby-trapped car, now moving in on Sonny. Because we’ve been a bit worried we could be headed for a murder mystery with Ava as the victim.
But Morgan’s return could derail that and distract everyone long enough for her to get back in folks’ good graces! What do you think? Who do you believe is returning? Is there a story you’re most excited about this summer?
