If there’s one thing Days of Our Lives knows how to do, it’s create dramatic weddings. And Maggie’s nuptials to Konstantin did not disappoint — though not at all in the way we were expecting! This is where we’re going to put a big bold Spoiler Alert for Friday’s cliffhanger.

Because going into the episode, we thought we knew how it would go down. We knew Maggie, Steve and John all had a plan to expose and humiliate the groom at the wedding. And they did. And we knew Konstantin would try to use The Pawn and, thanks to Marlena, it would be a dud. And he did.

We knew Theresa would be on the edge of her seat, hoping she wasn’t exposed. And she was. (Nervous, not exposed.) But what we didn’t expect was the confession that Konstantin made at the end of Friday’s episode. He was backed into a corner, all his tricks were used up and all he had left was lashing out at everyone who turned the tables on him.

His revenge on Steve, John and Maggie all fell apart, but that was OK, he snarled, because at least he got his revenge on Victor. “It was me who was responsible for his death. I am the one who sabotaged his plane and sent him to a watery grave.”

And just like that, Konstantin wasn’t just a blowhard conman — he was a bona fide villain! We thought maybe he’d meet his bloody end, but instead, we found out he was responsible for Victor’s death! His plane going down wasn’t a tragedy but a murder. We did not see that coming!

But did Konstantin really do it, or is he, like Gwen when she claimed to have killed Laura Horton, just trying to hurt everyone? Confessing to a murder when you’re about to go to prison for embezzling isn’t exactly the smart thing to do. But then again, confessing to a murder you didn’t commit is even more foolhardy!

But if he’s got an escape plan ready, maybe Konstantin just doesn’t care. He didn’t get what he wanted, so the next best thing was to leave everyone devastated and run for the hills. And if it is true, poor Maggie, who’s been kicking herself for falling for Konstantin’s lies, is going to be devastated to know she was falling for the man who killed her beloved Victor.

That could destroy her, or at the very least send her down a dark path where she stops trusting herself and starts questioning everything and everyone. And if it gets bad enough, even Maggie, who’s been a bastion of strength for so many in Salem, could start eyeing up the bottle again. As for Konstantin, embezzlement was one thing, attempted murder another, but an actual murder could ensure that he goes away to prison and never, ever resurfaces… Or worse.

No, this isn’t a new death, and the truth might take some time to unwind, but when the dust settles, Konstantin’s infuriating time on Days of Our Lives may be far more consequential than we realized.
